THERE WAS A BOY

There was a wealthy family. One day the father took his son on a trip to the countryside. His aim for this trip was to show his son the lifestyle of poor people. On their trip, they came across a farm where a poor family was living, just the kind of house he wanted his son to show. They lived there for a couple of days. When they returned the father with the feeling of excitement asked his son about the trip, if he liked it.

The boy replied that the trip was a great one. The father further taking the conversation towards his basic intention asked him,” Son, did you saw how poor people live?” The son replied,” Yes, father I did.” And the father was accepting his son to tell this in detail to see if his aim got fulfilled or not.

The boy began to elaborate on his observation. He said, “Father, I saw that we have just one dog and they have four. While we have a pool in our garden, they have this never-ending river. We have the posh lanterns, but they sleep under millions of stars at night. And father I also noticed that we have the patio, whereas they own the entire horizon. We own just a small portion of land while they, on the other hand, have the fields that have no limit. We have to buy our food, they don’t, and instead, they grow. Our house has a high fence for protection but they don't have any requirement to protect their house or property, as their friends are there to do so.”

The son's observation spilled water all over the ill intentions of the father and left him with no words.

"Father, I am thankful to you for showing me how poor we are." added the son.

The story puts light upon the reality of happiness which relies on love, friendship and freedom instead of material things.

HAPPY DERVISH

One day a Shah was traveling in his palanquin through the town and while traveling he was just gazing at people who were in haste. His eyes halted at one poorly dressed dervish who was sitting alone amid the crowd smiling and looking amazingly happy and had nothing more than a saucer which he used for hand-outs and a road script. This was a bit unusual sight for Shah. The Shah soon forgot this sight after passing the road.

A few days later, the Shah happened to pass the same way and saw the same Darvish in the same utter happiness with his eyes closed.

The Shah got curious and the next day he purposely passed through the same way to observe the dervish and his blissfulness. He saw no change in the happiness and eternal blissfulness of the dervish. The Shah our of curiosity passed the same way almost every day and to his surprise that there was not a slightest of reduction in the joy of the dervish.

At last, when all his patients were gone he decided to find out the reason for the endless happiness of the dervish. He stepped out of his palanquin and reached to the dervish and putting forward his curiosity he asked," What is the reason for your smile? I have seen you every day in this same joyous face and contentment. Is money the reason of your happiness?" The dervish replied," I possess nothing, my master. Just a few drops of food from God satisfies me."

"Then do you have a home or family or good health?"

Dervish replied with the same contentment," Master I have neither of them, my bones are paining due to cold and have no teeth in my mouth."

The Shah got more restless on finding no clue to his happiness and asked further," Then what makes you so happy that I see you always dipped in the ocean of happiness? Maybe your reason can help me find such happiness for myself."

Then the dervish said," Master, God never gives a man challenges more than what he can take. He gives the burden of only those situations on a man that he can handle and is necessary for his inner growth. Such situations that godsends are for spiritualization. With a whole heart, I accept what my God gives me, the situation that he creates for me at this very moment, is to teach me some deep lessons. So I am always happy with what I have, where I am and what is happening with me right now. I with bliss in my heart welcome the gift of god will gratitude and smile, when needed with resistance and patience, if possible. I try to read the message that God is trying to give me the means of circumstances for my development. The realization of this is not the reason for my happiness, but that clear horizon that opens in front of me without any rainy curtains, just filled with the golden light of awareness."
